Debriefing: You Can Do This!

Learning Objective 1:
Identify the three phases of debriefing structure to use after a simulation
Learning Objective 2:
Utilize debriefing with good judgement to moderate feedback in debriefing
Learning Objective 3:
Employ a model of debriefing that empowers the debriefer
Course Overview:
If the thought of leading a debriefing session makes you sweat and want to curl up in a ball this is the session to attend. Participants will not only learn the fundamentals of difficult debriefing and feedback, but will get the opportunity to practice handling two escalating debriefing situations in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Take a breath, be brave, and expand your debriefing and feedback skill sets.

Do You Want to Build a Bioskills Lab?
Learning Objective 1:
Identify space and end-user needs for working with cadaveric and/or animal tissues
Learning Objective 2:
Identify key components of a bioskills lab
Learning Objective 3:
Design a hypothetical bioskills lab to meet specific needs
Course Overview:
The goal for this presentation is to provide insight into important considerations when designing and building a bioskills lab. A bioskills lab is a facility dedicated to learners using animal or cadaveric tissue and is sometimes referred to as a ‘wet lab.’ Panelists will discuss equipment, ethical considerations, funding, construction, scheduling, and maintaining this type of specialized learning environment.

Rapid Cycle Debriefing Practice
Learning Objective 1:
Demonstrate genuine inquiry into the source of a behavior or decision
Learning Objective 2:
Identify a new tool or method that could be used in training of debriefing
Learning Objective 3:
Discuss barriers and solutions for repetitive practice with feedback for developing debriefing skills
Course Overview:
Some sim facilitators want to try out their debriefing skills, others want methods for faculty development. If you have considered one of the widely-cited debriefing methods, you can practice, get feedback, observe, and take the materials for this exercise with you. You already know the value of practice; reunite with fellow debriefers to discuss how practice becomes practical for different audiences with busy schedules.
